Red Rocks Open Space Wedding | Denver Wedding Photographer

Matt and Lauren had a long road to their wedding day due to COVID-19, not only did they have to change their date but also their wedding venue too! Even with all this change, this did not dampen their wedding day spirits! Surrounded by their family and loved ones, Matt and Lauren had a beautiful celebration.

Tell me your engagement story!

“Last summer we had a vacation planned to Galveston, Tx. Before the trip Matt took my daughter, Hazel with him to go pick out a ring. She loved being a part of the process. His plan was to ask me on the beach but he was so nervous he felt like he had to get it over with right away and asked me at our Airbnb. The kids were with us and even though it wasn’t on the beach like he planned, I still loved it.”

What’s your love story? What was the ‘spark’?

“Our story is a little like a Nicholas Sparks book or an episode of This is Us. I became a widow at 29 years old. My husband worked for the same company as Matt on the railroad. Duke (my late husband) was being transferred from Wichita to Colorado Springs. The kids were in the middle of the school year and we were reluctant to move them, so, he asked Matt if he could live with him for a few months before the rest of us could make it to town. Duke and Matt lived together for about 6 months before we bought our house in the Springs. I met Matt for the first time during that time period even though Duke had known him for several years. Flash forward a few months and Duke got into a car accident and was taken to the hospital. During his check up, they found that he had stage 4 kidney cancer. He had a surgery to remove that kidney and endured several complications. He passed away a few days later. I moved back to Wichita to be near family and friends not really knowing anyone in Colorado. But, Matt stepped up and kept checking on the kids and I. He didn’t disappear like most do in hard times and we began talking frequently. He came to Wichita to visit the kids and I several times and we grew from there! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we met a few months before Duke passed away. It’s been a beautiful thing in the midst of tragedy! Matt had previously been in a relationship for several years and she also passed away, so we are able to share a bond that most couples never experience. Matt has gracefully taken on the role of being a father to my three kids. He has been so good to them and they love having him be a part of our little family.”
